OUR STORY

Our Story: How We Started a Church Ministry

The journey began in 2001, when I was just an acrobatic street hustler, striving to make ends meet and support myself through school. To supplement my income, I turned to painting murals, which allowed me to stay in school and explore my creative talents. Later, my path shifted to dance, becoming both a performer and a teacher in various local schools and churches.

I eventually joined Jesus Worship Center Church Nateete, under the leadership of Pastors James and Julie Kato. My passion for dance deepened, and I became a part of Breakdance Project Uganda and later Tabuflo Dance Company. Through these platforms, I traveled to several countries, performing and sharing my experiences. Along the way, I found myself surrounded by young people eager to learn, grow, and find direction.

This led to the founding of Kyuka Youth Outreach, which eventually evolved into The Great Kyuka Ministries, with a broader and more ambitious vision to inspire change and spread hope.

While traveling, I crossed paths with Pastor Larry Goodwin, the lead pastor of The Refuge Church in Denison, Texas. Our connection opened doors to several visits, and eventually, I was invited to be a part of the church. Over five years, I gained invaluable experience, deepened my understanding of the grace gospel, and grew spiritually. I fell in love with Texas, its church community, and the people, believing it could become my permanent home.

However, God had other plans. Although I was called to ministry in 2015, I spent years running toward personal dreams and ambitions. Yet, God’s call remained persistent, and in May 2024, I faced a defining moment: to obey His call or continue chasing my own dreams.

Returning to Uganda, I had no clear vision of what, when, where, or with whom to start. But God’s plan unfolded in ways we could never imagine. Today, we are honored to lead The Refuge Church Semuto, a ministry birthed from obedience, faith, and a desire to serve.

Our story is one of grace, transformation, and a relentless pursuit of God’s purpose, and we look forward to seeing what He will continue to do through this ministry.
